A New Year - A Fresh Start January 04, 2015 20:56

I love the beginning of a New Year – there is something to be said about having that blank canvas in front of you - so many possibilities – that creates a sense of excitement.  Although we have many things planned for the year ahead, there will be many more times that are unscripted - that just may be some of the best time of our lives.

The first change of the year at our house usually coincides with the dismantling of Christmas.  I spent almost 5 hours yesterday taking down the trees, packing up all the baubles, putting away all the snowmen and Santa’s for another year.  It was exhausting and has to be at the top of my list of things I hate to do!

However....it gives me the first “Fresh Start” of the year.  In order to have the space to bring in my Christmas decor, I have to move furniture, move lots of knickknacks out – including some small pieces of furniture (okay maybe I do go a bit overboard with Christmas decorating).    Now that everything Christmas is gone I can make changes to how my furniture layout was, or what items I want to bring back into the room.   Some things never return - some get a new home in another room of the house while others are repurposed.  It is the perfect opportunity to change things up a bit – create something different out of what we already own and mix in a bit of new.

So today I will clean, move things around, edit and declutter – I came across these great tips on how to make changes to your room... http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/rethinking-your-space-step-one-136151

Let’s face it....we are looking at a few months of dismal weather outside – our inside spaces should provide us with warmth, comfort and delight.....while we look forward to Spring!

Have a great week...
